ASSOCIATE CHAIR, CAREERS (Full time, March 1, 2018 start date)

FACULTY OF FOUNDATIONAL, CAREERS & INTERCULTURAL STUDIES TEACHING AND LEARNING

Business Administration Diploma

 

The Associate Chair will provide leadership and management to promote learning. The Associate Chair works with the Chair and other Faculty or Divisional staff to establish and implement educational goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A Master’s Degree in Education or a related field is required.  

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching in a formal adult education environment

 

Previous academic activities should include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitating learning
  • Advocating for learners
  • Using teaching and learning strategies
  • Developing curriculum
  • Evaluating
  • Pursuing applied research or professional scholarly activities

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Faculty/Staff Support and Development

  • Provide a communication link between faculty and staff of the unit and the Program Chair when needed
  • Participate in recruitment decisions and orientation of faculty and staff
  • Promote professional development of faculty and staff
  • Consult with the Program Chair in the assignment of workload

 

Departmental and College Planning

  • Promote the benefits of, and advocate for the needs of, the program or support area
  • Provide input into the development of operational and financial plans

 

Student Success

  • Promote and support the implementation of sound adult educational strategies
  • Provide input into the development of program admission criteria
  • Monitor overall student academic performance
  • Foster a sense of community among students and faculty
  • Identify and address academic issues as needed
  • Participate in the academic advising of students as appropriate

 

Program Maintenance and Development

  • Participate in program reviews and/or accreditation reviews
  • Promote curriculum that is relevant, current and sustainable  

 

Internal and External Liaison

  • Provide timely and accurate communication with key stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of advisory committees as required

 

Educational Activities

  • Special projects or classroom teaching as assigned
  • Advocating for learners
  • Using teaching and learning strategies
  • Developing curriculum
  • Evaluating
  • Pursuing applied research or professional scholarly activities

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Proven leadership skills
  • Excellent understanding of immigrant issues and policies
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of diverse academic and cultural backgrounds of students
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver course material that incorporates appropriate objectives, assessments and outcomes
  • Ability to apply sound student engagement techniques that are responsive to diverse learner needs
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability
  • Proven project management skills

 

SALARY:   Commensurate with education and experience found in the Faculty Grid. This position also includes immediate participation in our comprehensive pension and benefits plan.

 

NOTE:  The assignment is for 3 years, there is a possibility of extension.
