RESEARCH CLERKS (OPEN TO NORQUEST STUDENTS ONLY)

ACADEMIC RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT

 

Reporting to a Research Analyst, the Research Clerk provides basic support to one or more institutional research project(s). Under the guidance and observation of the Analyst, the Research Clerk will engage in basic data collection activities (e.g., telephone surveys), data entry, data verification (e.g., checking spelling of names), and basic data sorting. Though having little independent initiative to act, the Research Clerk is integral to the success of projects as the activities s/he conducts are often labour intensive. Through his/her involvement in a project, the Research Clerk will learn if s/he is interested in pursuing further educational and work experience in the field of research.

The successful incumbents are required to complete basic data collection, entry, and sorting tasks in support of large institutional research projects under the direct supervision of a Research Analyst.

  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  

Support institutional research projects through:

  • Telephoning selected participants to encourage them to complete a survey
  • Completing the survey on the telephone should participants agree
  • Entering hard copy research data into the survey system and/or an excel file
  • Scanning course evaluations
  • Verifying the spelling of manually entered survey responses
  • Sorting manually entered data into a pre-set of response fields 

 Required Languages:

  • Fluency in Somali, French, Arabic, Tigrinya, Tagalog, or English.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • No formal post-secondary education is required
  • Direct life experience related to the needs of the project is essential
  • Projects may require a fluency in one or more specific languages
  • Good communication and relationship skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to identify when assistance is needed
  • A willingness to learn about research
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment and adhere to research ethics protocols as clearly outlined by the Analyst 

 SALARY: $17.80 -$22.28 per hour commensurate with education and experience. These are casual positions and will be hired into on a needs basis.
