    TUTOR and ACADEMIC COACH

    STUDENT SERVICES - LEARNING SUPPORT

     

    Learning Support is looking for a diverse pool of individuals who are interested in part time work on a casual basis. Are you looking for a part-time job?     The Tutorial & Academic Coaching team works in the bustling Learner Centre. We provide learning support services to foundational and post-secondary students via multiple delivery channels, including drop-in Tutoring and Academic Coaching; Writing Centre appointments (provided by English Tutor-Coaches); and accommodated coaching appointments for students referred by Disability Services. NorQuest is a growing and dynamic organization, and the Tutorial & Coaching team provide support to students from an expanding number of program areas - from academic upgrading and English language training, to diploma programs, such as Practical Nurse and Business Administration. We are located in the beautiful Learner Centre within the new Singhmar Centre for Learning. This is a very exciting time to be at NorQuest! Several casual positions are available. We are looking for educators with expertise in one or more of the following areas: foundational (junior and senior high level) math and science; Business math; foundational and academic writing; ESL, especially adult learners who are at CLB 1-4.

    We have opportunities for both weekend (Saturday) and weekday daytime shifts. An array of professional development opportunities to enhance content knowledge and skill-sets will be available!     Reporting to the Manager, Learning Support, the casual Tutor & Academic Coach position provides in-person and online tutoring and academic coaching for students taking courses that fall within their area of expertise.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

      

    Provide tutoring and academic coaching support to students

    • assess learning needs and collaborate with students to facilitate content mastery and build individualized learning strategy toolkits that support independence and self-regulation
    • provide a safe, inclusive, and holistic learning experience for all learners
    •  

    Contribute to on-going quality improvement in educational practice and service excellence

    • contribute to the evolution and innovation of best practices, tools, and resources that support educational practice and excellence in client service
    • engage in development opportunities as part of performance development planning
    •  

    Contribute to operational excellence

    • participate in various operational and administrative functions
    • capture accurate usage metrics for the purposes of decision-making and reporting

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Graduate degree is required; degree in Education (at the undergraduate or graduate level) is preferred. Equivalent education and related experience may also be considered.
    • Specialization is required in foundational math and science, Business math, or English/writing, with some applied knowledge of learning theory. Flexibility and willingness to learn new curriculum is required.
    • Minimum of 2 years related experience. Some experience working with adult learners, inclusive of those who are ESL, those with disabilities, and those with other barriers to learning.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) is required.

     

    SALARY: $31.50 - $40.90 per hour, plus 11.2% in lieu of benefits. Salary will commensurate based on related education and experience.
