    CAREER ADVISOR

    READINESS and RETENTION

    STUDENT SERVICES

     

    Reporting to the Team Lead, Student Career and Employment Services, both positions will assist, guide and provide resources to Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) clients in the career and employment planning process to acquire sustainable employment or further training. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

      

    • Provide individual and group assistance to support and coach clients, as they link to appropriate employment or further education 
    • Assist clients with career planning and research
    • Assist clients with all parts of the job search and job maintenance processes (e.g., resumes and cover letters development, interview preparation and practice, cold calls, networking)
    • Develop, facilitate, evaluate, and revise workshops
    • Participate in event planning, such as job and volunteer fairs

     

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • A post-secondary diploma and 3-5 years of related experience in a post-secondary environment or employment program required.
    • Related degree in Social Sciences is considered a definite asset.
    • Equivalencies will be considered.
    • Minimum 3 years career and employment advising is required.
    • Career Development Certificate is an asset
    • Experience advising English as a Second Language students in an educational or community setting  
    • Excellent communication skills (one-on-one and group facilitation)
    • Excellent interpersonal and rapport building skills to support /create optimal client outcomes
    • Independent, organized and client centered
    • Committed to student success
    • Excellent computer application skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) and student information system preferred (PeopleSoft)

     

    SALARY: $52,052 - $67,626 per year, includes immediate participation in our comprehensive pension and benefit plans.

     

    NOTE: The two positions are full time term  with an end date of March 31, 2019 with a possibility of renewal. 

     

    Position I will be located at the downtown campus and requires the successful candidate to work the following hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:15am-4:30pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00am-6:15pm.

     

    Position 2 will be located at both, the downtown and Westmount campuses and may require the successful candidate to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.
