DEAN, BUSINESS, ENVIRONMENT AND TECHNOLOGY
TEACHING AND LEARNING
The Dean of the Business, Environment, and Technology provides the strategic educational leadership and management for the business administration programs, environment and sustainability programs, with other academic units to be added in the future.
The Dean utilizes reliable data sources to understand and identify student demand and industry alliances to understand and identify how best to create and deliver educational programs to meet the changing needs of industry. The Dean also employs these resources to further research, enhance programs, and develop innovative solutions in the respective fields as well as to build the reputation and presence of the college.
Working in consultation with managers, executive, and industry partners to develop and implement sound educational strategies, programs, practices and initiatives, the Dean will ensure students successfully develop the knowledge, technical skills, critical thinking skills and interpersonal communication skills that will lead to success in their chosen careers.
The Dean will inspire and lead divisional faculty and staff in positioning the division as a leader in education and in providing direction for the development and delivery of high quality, cost-effective educational products and services.
The Dean is responsible for utilizing this information to create a divisional business plan that aligns with the Vice President’s contribution agreement as well as the College’s Comprehensive Institutional and Strategic Plans.
Evaluation of educational strategies, programs, practices and initiatives will be encouraged by this role to ensure success of industry and student needs.
The Dean is responsible and accountable for the development and delivery of programs, fulfilling the division’s operational plan, and operating with an approved budget.
Finally, as a key member of the senior leadership team, the Dean works as a leader and an enabler for meeting the college’s strategic priorities and vision by providing leadership and sound decision making at all college wide committees, and by collaborating with all areas of the college to build and execute on the individual strategies of each area.

College and Divisional Planning and Leadership
Create a culture of “customer first” whereby every member of the team acts in such a way that students feel like the come first, and they then carry that culture into their own workplaces upon graduation.
As a member of the Senior Academic Leadership Team and the College Senior Leaders team, the Dean provides educational leadership and management to the Faculty that aligns with the overall College’s Comprehensive Institutional and Strategic Plans.
Seeks opportunities to innovate how we teach and learn, including the integration of creative technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, robotics, and artificial intelligence
Creates the environment to support and promote applied research within the department and division to promote the development of innovative education.
Builds the capacity of faculty and staff expertise and programming accessibility to create an inclusive and successful learning environment for all students with particular emphasis on current college strategies such Indigenous, international and Immigrant populations.
Consults and provides expertise to other college leaders and executive to develop sound educational strategies as well as academic and business practices by maintaining personal currency on academic and industry issues.
Advances the College Strategic Plan by engaging the divisional faculty and staff with the organization.
Engages divisional faculty and staff in the continued drive to position the College as a leader in the provision of education and services.
Provides leadership on academic and industry sector issues.
The Dean’s role in strategic planning and leadership:
Leads or participates in one of the following college wide committees: Strategic Market Intelligence, Strategic Management, or Strategic Talent Management to ensure effective planning, risk mitigation, prioritization and allocation of resources.
Contributes to College policy and procedure development to ensure a consistent message in keeping with NorQuest College values, our student needs, and external legislation.
Contributes to the overall planning and direction of the College including the development and contribution from the division’s operational plan. Ensuring the faculty’s feedback, issues, and concerns are communicated in the planning and decision-making process
of the division and/or College.
Integrates and coordinates activities across the college in alignment with college direction
Facilitates strategic planning and implementation within departments, divisions, and the college
Ensures that college and department directions and requirements are shared with faculty and staff
Provides leadership to governance, committees, projects, and initiatives
Ensures that program and division budgets support the College directions
Ensures sound financial stability by engaging faculty and staff in the financial planning process. Provides direction for the overall department capital, operating, and revenue budget development, as well as managing departmental expenditures.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of financial resources for programming and applied research activities.
Provides direction for the development and implementation of high quality, cost effective educational products and services delivery.
Ensures relevancy and success of programs and services by evaluating the relevancy of existing programs. Leads necessary changes to ensure needs of industry partners are met.
Supports students in achieving their learning and career goals by ensuring academic excellence and student success through the development of a quality-learning environment and by monitoring and acting on key performance indicator results.
Implements strategies to expand learner access through multiple modes of educational and services delivery.
Ensures programs and services comply with national/provincial standards of accreditation, and leads the division in striving for continual quality improvement.
Establishes annual enrolment and revenue targets for all programs and services in the department and monitors performance against those targets. Initiates and implements necessary changes as required divisional success.
Provides leadership to the division’s earned revenue business. Identifies opportunities, establishes partnerships, and negotiates contracts and agreements.
Enhances divisional and organizational effectiveness through the engagement of human resource areas of attraction, retention, development and transition including:
Consults on academic issues including student success, program maintenance and development, faculty support and development.
Provides direction for the workload assignment for faculty and staff
Facilitates professional development planning and activities in the division
Internal and External Community Liaison
Facilitates strong industry alliances to understand and identify the successful alignment of curriculum and training required to meet the changing needs of employers and professional associations.
Promotes and maintains partnerships with industry to facilitate student placements and identify new areas of program/service development.
Maintains and develops strong industry relationships and alliances by supporting ongoing development of Program Advisory Committees.
The Dean provides effective communication, collaboration, and liaison with internal and external parties by:
Acting as the contact person for consultation with relevant regulatory and professional associations
Acting as liaison with other post-secondary institutions
Acting as the College representative for industry contacts and organizations
Acting as the College representative for various community organizations
Ensuring two way communication between departments, divisions, executive, and service areas
Coordinating divisional communication
Ensuring communication of divisional feedback with college committees and facilitating participation on college committees
QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum educational qualification of a Master’s degree is required, specifically in Business, Environment, or Technology.
7 years relevant, transferable experience is required
Extensive experience establishing effective relationships and linkages to business and community organizations, preferably within educational and professional associations.
Experience accessing external funding, developing and implementing contract-training projects, and working with multiple stakeholders is desired. Relevant experience will also be considered.
Extensive experience in providing leadership in the development and delivery of programs and services.

This position requires an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, student body and administration.
The candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of the field of business or environment and the principles, practices and requirements of the professional associations and of initiatives to expand cultural competence and inclusion.
SALARY: $133,685 - $167,106 ; commensurate with education and experience.
NOTE: This position also includes immediate participation in our comprehensive management pension and benefits plan.
