    CHAIR, POST-DIPLOMA PROGRAMS

    HEALTH AND COMMUNITY STUDIES

     

    The Faculty of Health and Community Studies is growing, and this role is an exciting opportunity for a nursing educator to lead an innovative portfolio of post-diploma offerings for the division.  These may include current and future offerings such as Foot Care for Licensed Practical Nurses, Advanced Education in Orthopedics for Licensed Practical Nurses, Mental Health Recovery Practitioner, Addictions Recovery Practitioner, and Health Leadership.  This role is a key player in facilitating Faculty or Divisional staff to establish and implement educational goals and objectives.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Faculty/Staff Support and Development

    • Participate in recruitment decisions and orientation of faculty and staff
    • Promote professional development of faculty and staff
    • Assign workload
       

    Departmental and College Planning

    • Promote the benefits of, and advocate for the needs of, the program or support area
    • Develop operational and financial plans
       

    Student Success

    • Promote and support the implementation of sound androgogical (adult educational) strategies
    • Develop and review program admission criteria
    • Monitor overall student academic performance
    • Foster a sense of community among students
    • Identify and address academic issues as needed
    • Provide academic advising for students as appropriate
       

    Program Maintenance and Development

    • Lead program reviews and/or accreditation reviews
    • Ensure curriculum  is relevant, current and sustainable
    • Lead and execute process improvement initiatives within the portfolio
    • Develop and report on key performance measures within your team
       

    Internal and External Liaison

    • Provide timely and accurate communication with key stakeholders
    • Develop and maintain active program advisory committees as required
       

    Educational Activities

    • Participating in teaching excellence as defined by the Task Force on Teaching Excellence Final Report, September 2010
    • Facilitating/ classroom lab and clinical teaching as assigned
    • Advocating for learners
    • Using teaching and learning strategies
    • Developing curriculum
    • Evaluating
    • Pursuing  applied research or professional scholarly activities
       

    Special Projects or classroom teaching as assigned

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    RN with a bachelor’s related degree; Masters degree an asset.  Must be a member in good standing CARNA.  Chairs of programs requiring external accreditation must have professional recognition in the program discipline.  

     

    A minimum of three – five years’ experience teaching in a formal adult education environment is desirable.

    For success in this position, the successful candidate must have a strong history of operational leadership and collaboration.

    Previous academic activities should include, but are not limited to:

    • Using teaching and learning strategies
    • Evaluating
    • Pursuing applied research or professional scholarly activities

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Proven leadership skills
    • Excellent  understanding of immigrant issues and policies
    • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
    • Communicates well within an Aboriginal context; awareness of Aboriginal traditions and history
    • Ability to apply sound student engagement techniques that are responsive to diverse learner needs
    • Demonstrated decision-making ability
    • Proven project management skills
    • Highly organized

     

    SALARY:  Will be commensurate with education and experience.  Salary will be based on the Faculty grid.  The successful candidate will also receive an additional stipened in the Chair role.
