    Reporting to the Manager of Wellness, the Counsellor’s primary function is to support students with mental health concerns using best practices set out by the College of Alberta Psychologists, provide appropriate psychosocial interventions and referrals, and respond to mental health emergencies in the student population.  This position will function as an integrated multidisciplinary member within Wellness, in order to provide support to at-risk students and those with mental health needs. This position will gather statistics that illustrate their work with students, work within the standards provided by the College of Alberta Psychologists, and provide other duties as required.



    • Provide mental health support to students requiring counselling to address barriers to success
    • Provide crisis and drop-in counselling to at-risk students
    • Actively participate as part of a multidisciplinary Wellness Team, to ensure best practices and student safety
    • Participate and/or lead Wellness Team mental health initiatives that support NorQuest students
    • Collaborate with other areas of the College in order to support student mental health


    • Master in Counselling Psychology or Master of Educational Psychology is required
    • Registration, in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists
    • 5+ years of experience is required, experience in a post-secondary education environment would be an asset
    • Experience with counselling in the post-secondary environment would be an asset
    • Experience with psychoeducational assessments
    • Experience providing trauma informed, psychosocial interventions and crisis counselling
    • Experience developing and delivering resources
    • Experience and training supporting individuals impacted by sexual violence
    • Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting
    • Experience establishing/maintaining a network of contacts with community resources
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaborative and positively on a team
    • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to respond quickly to changing demands
    • Experience with acculturation issues
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in both verbal, electronic, and written formats
    • Must be independent, organized, and detail-oriented
    • Communicates with a high level of professionalism, discretion, and courtesy


    SALARY:  Commensurate with education and experience found in the Faculty Grid. These roles will receive a vacation modifier and will be entitled to 15 vacation days and receive an additional 10% of their normal annual salary. This position also includes immediate participation in our comprehensive pension and benefits plan.


    NOTE: There are up to 3 term positions available for part time and full time roles with a possiblity for extension startomg August 2019.
