Job Description

STUDENT EDITOR, TEACHING & LEARNING DEVELOPMENT (CASUAL)

RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INNOVATION

 

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for a post-secondary student who can be dependable and is dedicated to making a difference, while actively learning and being mentored in the editing of materials for Open Education Resources. Working under the guidance of the Senior Editor, you will ensure edited materials are compliant with Copyright and Creative Commons licenses, are inclusive of language and context for various cultures and demographics of the College learners and communities, including Indigenous peoples, new Canadians, and our BIPOC community.  

 

Reporting to the Manager, Teaching & Learning Development, and working closely with the Senior Editor, the Student Editor supports the department with editing, fact checking, and copyright compliance for the publication of new Open Education Resources in Pressbooks.

 

You can expect to work 20-36.25 hours each week, dependent on individual project deadlines.

 

This casual position will be from May-August, 2024.

 

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Edit documents from a variety of developers for an Open Education Resource textbook.
  • Collaborate with Teaching & Learning Development team members and subject matter experts.
  • Provide editing suggestions and support to subject matter experts.
  • Use familiarity with copyright, fair dealings, and creative commons to ensure edited resources are compliant with laws.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Currently in a post-secondary program that could include University Arts degree in English, Journalism, Education, Library Sciences, Communications, or a related field, or relevant experience as an editor.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills, excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Able to adhere to the requested voice and writing style of the content.
  • Familiarity with Canadian copyright law, Creative Commons licences, and fair dealing is an asset.
  • Familiarity with inclusive language, and the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and plain language.
  • Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style (17th) and APA (7th ed.).
  • Proficiency with technology, including word processing and computer applications. Knowledge of Pressbooks is an asset.

SALARY: $21.57 - $27.03/hour reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a casual opportunity that will include 11.2% in lieu of vacation.
